is it *wrong* for one's most cherished childhood memories to be those involving a ZX81?

Probably not, but if you are sure that's true, it does constitute an effective *warning* to which one will give 'all due respect.' Badiou's being particularly 'intimidated by painting' is not all that much less remote.

Is it wrong??? NO WAY! I spent HOURS playing on my '81 before finally getting my QL and finding out what real computers were about. The 81 is a true marvel. SO much computer from so little electronics... & it still looks cool!

Oops. Is it wrong?? NO WAY! The 81 is a true marvel of computing. So much computer, so few gates. I think it still looks cool!

that's so true it's worth saying twice. Looking at the intensely microsoft-devastated state of things today, no-one would believe how joyful and beautiful was the world of home computing in its infancy. :_(
