Dogville 2

The Independent on Saturday informs me that Nichole Kidman has turned down a follow up role in Dogville 2, because of a busy schedule caused by an injury suffered during shooting of Moulin Rouge (what a waste!).

I hadn't even realised there would be a sequel.

Here, it says it's a trilogy:

Friday 12th September 2003: Dogville 2 Update: Nicole Kidman has said that there's still a chance she may end up doing the second part of Lars Von Trier's Dogville trilogy. "He wrote a great script which will be part of the trilogy. And who knows? Maybe it will end up working out. But at this moment I'm not doing it because he wanted to do it before June," she said. "Even though I am really dedicated to do it I do need to take some time with my kids. And that's what I am doing at the beginning of next year."
information from this review site

I've re-published my multitude of Dogville reviews here (read bottom up), and here's a great piece by Dread which brings back all the horror of the film: To the dogs

on criticism & understanding

...there are no simple misunderstandings. Each time you read a text-"and this is my situation and the situation of every reader-"there is some misunderstanding, but I know of no way to avoid this. Mis under-standing is always significant; it-™s not simply a mistake, or just an absurdity. It-™s something that is motivated by some interest and some understanding. Sometimes the most ferocious Critics who react vehe-mently and passionately and sometimes with hatred understand more than supporters do, and it-™s because they understand more that they react this way. Sometimes they understand unconsciously, or they know what is at stake. Sometimes I think that this enemy, because he-™s so ferocious, so nervous, is more aware of what is at stake than a friendly ally is. So, sometimes misunderstanding is understanding, and the other way around.

Drugs

"i thought, mark is acting obnoxious, whats all that about?. the answer i come up with was hes gone into manic overdirve and his sexual frustration has been excaberbated by a unrequited love. sure, it was shot in the dark but its the theory im working on. i was asking you to reassure me as he isn't engaging with me." - luka (http://www.dissensus.com/showthread.php?t=249)

Isn't it the change of medication mid last year that has caused this sudden change of behaviour?

Magical childhood

More mindless destruction of the past successes in evidence here. I used to spend hours looking at the cover pictures of my childhood books, comparing them to the illustrations in the inside pages - always by a different illustrator - letting my imagination play with all the information the images offered, thinking about the faces, examining the backgrounds. I realised this when I opened a box containing my childhood books - every image was deeply familiar. The original Magic Faraway Tree cover illustrated on Dread seems to sparkle; I would be seriously worried about any child who spent any time in reverie over the new cover illustration.
