Banned In China

I finally got around to checking this out like damned near everybody else has already, and guess what: CF is not allowed in China. Hmm; guess I'll have to start being a lot nicer to Commies around here, eh?

Hiya,

this banned in China meme is getting way out of hand. I live in Shanghai and spend two-thirds of my time hanging around in war-blogs (most of which proudly claim to be banned in China). By the way, love anything that can be taken as an endorsement of flash-frying islamofascists keep up the good work - nick

and those commies you need to be nice to could be anywhere; at the store, on the bus, fixing your car, doing your hair, anywhere! They could be right next tot you and you wouldn't even know it

Yeah, I'm reading this in Beijing right now, too. A lot of time sites that are "banned" in China just turn out to be inaccessible because the country's pipes to the outside world are very narrow and it may take several tries to get a page to load. Also, some Chinese ISPs may take it upon themselves to nix or redirect traffic to sites they think might piss off the authorities. Like when Google was banned a while back, it was left to the discretion of ISPs whether they would disable it outright or push traffic to approved search engines. Others just ignored the ban and gave their customers what they want. Not that censorship and Web site banning doesn't take place here but the regulators have only a tenuous grip over the whole thing that it's hard to get a clear picture of what is really happening.

I'm reading you from Shenzhen right now... don't look banned to me.

Rats. And here I was feeling all proud of myself and all. Oh well.
