Only redeeming feature: Cockfosters Tube Station,
a jazz quartet in concrete; a luminous vision
of future times that never came to pass.

Funny to think of you walking down my street, lost, & looking in vain for the charm of N14. It does exist behind the tanning shops & takeaways. It's about the optimism of the interwar years. "London's healthiest suburb, 300 ft above sea level & 30 mins from the City" is how Southgate was advertised in the 30s: light, airy houses, some mock-Tudor, some arts & crafts, some in the modern internationale style. Oakdales, Woodlands and Brooksides. Stained glass & parquet, gardens with appletrees and space for an Austin 7 on the drive. And of course, as you say, it's in the peerless Underground designs of Charles Holden.
A great site, btw.

hmm...I'll have to look closer next time. I forgot to mention, the other interesting feature was that pond next to the roundabout on Cat Hill, which appeared to have a large turtle population.
