From the East

We recently had the pleasure of attending an event at the newly opened Divus HQ in London, where Ivan Mecl is promoting the activities of the Czech art-enabling and -publishing organisation.

Amongst other activities, Divus publishes Umelec, a superb art magazine which often reports on extremely interesting work by artists from their native Czech Republic and beyond who usually pass under the radar of the 'art world'. Incredibly, Umelec is published simultaneously in four languages, and is highly recommended whichever language you read.

Providing noise for the opening night were the excellent Patricide, whose remarkable industrial-strength blend of grime, hiphop and death metal sounds like it couldn't possibly work, but somehow does...

Transversals

Two examples of exactly the sort of antidisciplinary effects Collapse hopes to provoke: In Berlin this summer, sound-artist and Collapse Volume III contributor Florian Hecker performed a four-channel sound piece entitled 'Dark Energy', inspired by the interview in Collapse Volume II with theoretical cosmologist Roberto Trotta.

Meanwhile Helen Johnson, currently working in Trondheim, Norway, includes Collapse in her work Without this stone the structure would collapse (below).
